SHOWTEC
FEEDING RECOMENDATIONS
The following outline should serve as a baseline for feeding
MoorMan’s ShowTec Feeds. We believe that the three key components
to building championship caliber show pigs are genetics, nutrition,
and management. Some critical factors to consider when making feed
management decisions are: 1) Days to Show; 2) Genetics; 3) Sex of
pig, 4) Environmental conditions. It is extremely important to
monitor the average daily gain on show pigs from 100 pounds to show
date on a weekly basis and adjust rations accordingly. For most
pigs, begin limit feeding in the 140-150 pound range and begin to
make decisions as to whether the pig is a candidate for Paylean or
not. One must manage the average daily gain of the pig to allow for
an average daily gain in the 3 pound/day range while on Paylean the
last 20-25 days. It is difficult to achieve less than 3 pounds/day
ADG even in limit feeding situations when using Paylean
-
Approximately 50-75 pounds (time of purchase):
Feed 11148AE as a receiving ration for 10-12 days to “clean up”
worm problems and help against respiratory challenges.
-
Feed 11273AB from this point to approximately 180-200 pounds. You
may feed this feed to market weight provided the pig maintains
desirable leanness.
-
Begin using Navigator at the rate
of 4-6 ounces per day at approximately 180-200 pounds tomaintain
lean, athletic look. Feed 8 ounces for short periods of time to burn
fat but watch for “burning”of top shape.
-
Feed 277
from 180-200 pound range to market if pigs are laying on less than
desirable cover, or are excessively heavy muscled to “tone down”
muscle volume.
-
If the pig is slightly above average
in muscle and less, initiate Paylean product 20-25 days prior to
show. Product 11256AB provides the 9 gram per ton level of Paylean.
The daily “hand mix” product, Lean Maximizer , allows one to
adjust the gram level of Paylean from 18 grams and down. It should
be fed in combination with 11273 and Navigator.
